Lori's Doll Quilt Exchange

I love to make doll quilts, and this week I finished a little doll quilt that will be sent to someone else as part of Lori's (of humblequilts.blogspot.com) doll quilt exchange.  It is fun anticipating someone opening up a package and finding this little quilt.

Here's a picture of it with some white rabbits out in the screened porch:

It was a fun quilt to make, and I used indigos and white.  I love pinwheels, and when I had the top together, I noticed that some of my fabrics didn't meet together very well in the center of the pinwheels.

Then, I remembered a little jar full of pearl buttons in the sewing room.

The little buttons were soon spilled out on the quilt, and one was sewn in the center of each pinwheel.  Each little button covers the center of each pinwheel and also served the purpose of securing the batting, backing and front of the quilt together.

I used heavy button thread, double thickness, and double knots to secure the tiny buttons.  After adding the striped, bias cut binding, it measures 20" by 22", and the hst's are 2.5 inches square.

I also hand quilted the border, as I found out that the recipient is an advocate of hand quilting.  I am not very good at it, but I enjoyed trying hand quilting.

Happy Easter everyone!  I hope the new owner likes her little pinwheel doll quilt!  If you are in Lori's little doll quilt exchange, this one might be coming your way today.  I'm heading to the post office right now.

Clever use of the buttons--love blue/white quilts and pinwheels are always winners in my book!

Hey Judy, I think those points are really pretty good. They would have passed my inspection! lol. But the buttons are a very cute addition and I love the indigo's and white, one of my all time favorite combos! cheers,Claire W.

The buttons a creative solution though I think it was not really a problem that the pinwheels were not perfect in the center.

Wasn't that a fun swap? I just received my quilt today and it is lovely. I like your blue and white quilt too

Just adorable! The buttons weren't really necessary to cover the centers, but they do add a nice touch! I enjoyed the exchange and received a gorgeous doll quilt that I'm putting on my doll bed.

Love the use of the buttons on this little quilt. Someone is going to be very happy to get this one. I received mine yesterday.

Hi, I just found your blog by googling blogs w/ doll quilts. I've got a goal to make 7 this year, for charity (Samaritan's Purse). I, too, love pinwheels. When my points didn't meet perfectly, I thought about buttons, but realized some little girl will be very happy --and I can live with imperfection. I was afraid of buttons with little kids, but sounds like you really secured yours.
I'm going to have a look around at your other doll quilts.
