I am feeling much better this week, thanks for all your well wishes. That cold really knocked me out, so I haven't made much progress in quilting. However, I did make some progress on the tiny pink hsts doll quilt. Here is my progress so far (two columns of broken dishes sewed together with sashing and one almost ready to attach to them):
I envision having five columns of broken dishes, (alternating the plaid, small check, plaid, small check, plaid) and with the stripes of sashing between each column and on each side - there will be a total of six of the fussy-cut pink sashings. So I am about half finished.
Spring rain has really brought things to life here in Michigan. Outside my sewing room window there are lots of beautiful ferns to look at. Every year, I watch how fast they grow in the spring. Here is a picture taken yesterday:
They are commonly called "Interrupted Fern" and you can see how the inner fern fronds grow naturally at the start of a stalk, then change to tighter, smaller ones, then change back to the natural looking ones. The "interrupted" part will later be the spore bearing fertile leaflets. Here is a picture from the internet that shows what the ferns will look like later this summer, with the fertile brown spore covered parts:
These ferns, Osmunda claytoniana, form a lovely tall vase shape and grow to about four feet tall. The internet tells me that paleontological evidence indicates this fern has remained unchanged, even at the level of fossilized nuclei and chromosomes, for at least 180 million years. They have been native to Michigan long before I was born......and will be here long after I'm gone. The best part is they require no care from me and look so calm and peaceful outside the quilting room window. I am blessed by them.
What are you working on this week? We have had beautiful pictures posted last week, that kept me entertained as I lay in bed with my Kleenex box and cough drops. Thank you all for keeping me entertained! Looking forward to seeing what you are going to post today. Please refer back to this particular blog post somewhere within your blog post, and thanks for joining in!

The little doll quilt looks very nice. I'm sure you'll have it finished in plenty of time for the fall retreat. I look forward to viewing it then. Glad you're feeling better. I also have those ferns growing here at my home. They always looks so lovely in the spring. Happy Stitching!
ReplyDeleteGlad you are feeling better. Hopefully you won't have a lingering cough for long. I always hate that part of having a respiratory illness, I cough for weeks afterwards. Love your doll quilt, the colors are beautiful. Hope you are up for more stitching time this week.
ReplyDeletelove the Broken Dishes - such a neat pattern and of course the pieces are so tiny for it to be a doll quilt! I love ferns and love when they grow naturally near the house - I have some that I planted though too
ReplyDeleteI love ferns. My roses and peony are blooming and it looks like its going to be a good year for both. Last year we trimmed my wisteria back, perhaps too much and it's not bloomed yet.
ReplyDeleteLove the fussy cut sashing too.
Glad you are feeling better! and the green is SO pretty!
ReplyDeleteCute tiny blocks, I love how your quilt is growing!
ReplyDeleteThe ferns are just so lush and gorgeous. And I love your pink broken dishes!
ReplyDeleteI like the fabric colors in your Broken Dishes small quilt.
ReplyDeleteI wish you a speedy recovery Judy. Hope you are good as new soon.
ReplyDeleteI love visiting your blog every Monday! Thanks for keeping up the Design Wall Monday! FYI your blog address comes up as "Not secure". Wanda at exuberantcolor.blogspot.com tells how to fix it so that visitors like me can have a secure connection when reading your blog. You may want to change your settings! Here is what she says to fix that….
ReplyDeleteFor all of you who still have http:// as the beginning of your blog address, this isn’t safe any more. Blogger has already set it to https:// for everyone but you need to take one more step. In Blogger go to your settings in the Basic page and change the HTTPS DIRECT to YES. In Bloglovin my blog came up as Not Secure until I changed that setting to YES. You don’t want the bad guys getting into your account and messing with it. I’m visiting a lot of blogs that still come up with the Not Secure at the beginning of the address and you need the setting enabled to forward your visitors to the secure https:// setting.
I went ahead and fixed my own blog and now the “not secure” is no longer there. Check it out!
Hi Judy, love checking out all the fun little doll quilts. I have beek making and collecting doll quilts and dolls for many years. Thank you for sharing!
