Design Wall Monday - August 17, 2020

I am starting on binding one of the four quilts I’ve gotten back from the long arm quilter.  This one is the gingham check baby quilt.  After so much company, I’m starting with the smallest quilt.

When I looked for something to bind it with, I saw these extra parts from the rail fence front of the quilt, sewed them all together, and there was just enough to use for the binding.  It has a lot of seams, but the gingham fabric is so thin that the seams are not a problem.

Trimmed the binding to 2.5 inches wide:

Pressing it to make it double fold:

Here is a picture of the start of the final hand sewing.  I will send a picture of the completed quilt next week.

I hope to look at everyone’s blog this week and catch up with you all.  Thanks for being so understanding while I was entertaining.  It was a great week.

Please link your blog below and show us what you are creating.  As always, I ask that you link back to this particular blog post from somewhere within your post, and mention Design Wall Mondays in your post.  Have a great day!

  1. Looking forward to seeing the little quilt next week. It was nice you could have some company. Happy stitching!

  2. What a great binding choice! The only problem with something with so many seams is avoiding a seam on the corners? Or is it so thin that wasn't really a problem? Enjoy your finishing up stitching.

  3. It's too bad that one of the fabric companies doesn't make 100% cotton gingham that looks like the Dan River blend we are all so accustomed to. The pattern in gingham is both distinctive and a universal blender.

  4. What a cute quilt that is going to be! And love the binding. Don't you feel great to be able to use 'All' the scraps left over?

  6. Don't you just love putting those last hand stitches in the binding, Judy? Piecing those gingham scraps together made for a lovely binding. I'm looking forward to seeing the whole thing in your Big Reveal. :-)

  8. I love gingham and just bought a big piece to use as a backing, and have a yellow piece I want to cut on the bias for a quilt binding for another quilt. Glad you enjoyed your company. We are still not allowed to mix households, which is very hard. I wore my mask on a recent short visit to my daughter to drop off her birthday gift.

  9. There is something about gingham that just seems so homey and sweet. Another lovely (near) finish, Judy.
