Design Wall Monday - February 21, 2022

Good Morning Quilters!  This past week has been bitter sweet here, as my only sister passed away on Wednesday.  She went peacefully as I held her hand, and I was so honored to care for her during her final days here on earth.  I am sure she is in heaven, enjoying a new life there.  Her funeral is tomorrow, and quilting will again take a back seat for another week.  Thank you all for your prayers for her and for our family.

The only thing “quilt” related this week was a purchase:  I bought some blue buttons from a friend who is downsizing her sewing room.  I have wanted to make an American Flag Quilt and have saved some internet examples of different ideas.  See below:

Now that I have my friend’s buttons, I am thinking about this idea more.  Have you made a wall hanging using buttons on a quilt?

The quilt in my blog header is made with buttons from my mother’s button box, and is one of my favorites.  I think it is time to sew some more buttons onto a quilt.

Please show us what you are working on this week.  I so appreciate being able to see and read about what beautiful things you are creating.  You inspire all of us.  As always, I ask that you provide a link back to this blog post from within your post.  Also, if you invite others to join us in our weekly Design Wall Linky Party, that's appreciated too.

You are invited to the Inlinkz link party!

  4. My sincere condolences on your loss---sending prayers for you and yours.
I hope that your final days with your sister will give you memories to warm your heart during this difficult time...

I love the little button pillow you showed; the only problem I've had with buttons on quilts, is that they make it pretty heavy...

  13. Hi Judy, it must have been a difficult time for you but I'm glad that you were with your sister when she died because that has to have made the passing easier for her. My sympathies. Take care of yourself. Hugs.
I've used buttons, but only a few on some quilts. It would be interesting to have many on the same quilt.

  17. So sorry for your loss.

enJOYed checking out your patriotic ideas using buttons. I've only used buttons in a memory quilt that came off the shirts used in the memory quilt. Instead of quilting the quilt as usual, I tacked the quilt with the buttons. I recommend button tacking only be done on a quilt for display, not for cozy comfort.

  20. Judy, I share your sadness, I lost my only sister in 2016 - sisters are so special, we had almost nothing in common except our love for each other. Happy memories of fun times together I often laugh out loud when I come across something she would have found funny, as if she was with me still. So sad to lose, but happy thoughts now keep me company, very glad to have had her. I love buttons, I put them on wall quilts and fabric book pages, I always look in charity shops and ask if they have a button tin I can rummage through. (they take buttons from garments they are getting rid of). My thoughts are with you, take heart your sister will never leave you. Love, Elaine in England
