There will be white flannel as the batting, and muslin for the backing. I am still looking in my stash for one of the four binding fabrics that was used on the original doll quilt. It is interesting with the various binding colors. I will probably quilt it on the diagonal, what do you think?

Since it's nearing the 4th of July here in the United States, the second quilt is a little patriotic doll quilt. I plan to sash it with white, and add a red border around the outside. The flags are made with old checks and stripes from my mother's stash - 3 pieces per flag, and they will be 2 in. by 3 in. when sewn into the sashing.
Your quilt looks so much like the old one--amazing! And I love those little flags--I wonder if the old quilt was "stitched -in-the-ditch"? that used to be very popular--I know my Grand'mere did that on her bed quilts....have fun deciding...hugs, Julierose

You've done a great job making a reproduction so true to the original quilt. It is hard to grasp the scale in the photos but it must be adorable with the little 1" hourglass blocks. Your addition of the extra red blocks was a good decision. The original maker would probably agree.
ReplyDeleteJudy, I think I have some civil war clothes downstairs, do you want to see if either fabric would work for the binding? If I haven't pitched it out...I'm on a tear :)
