Design Wall Monday - April 3, 2023

Footnote to last week's post:  For those who were "no reply" on last week's post, here is information on the Jane Stickle quilt.  It has been made by paper piecing, and there is software for this quilt that can be used with Electric Quilt.  There are also some generous internet people who have free instructions for you.  For instance, see Susangatewood.net for wonderful instructions on how to make each block.

Good Morning Quilters!

Boy am I tired!  I am soooooo tired that I can hardly stand up.    Why, you ask?

Well, who wouldn't be after a March of 31 days?

This was a joke my father told to us kids every year right after March ended.  We would groan and roll our eyes.   I think of him often, and smile when something reminds me of one of his many jokes.

I am back to working on the Benjamin Biggs Wedding Quilt again.  Here is a picture of my design wall, with 17 blocks finished:

The two blocks that have been finished recently are the one with many, many leaves, block #15,

and the much easier block with four flower buds and four leaves, block #16:

  3. Benjamin is a labor of love. The "March of 31 days" is funny and reminds me of this one.
    Q - Can February March?
A - No. But April May.
May your week have plenty of joy and laughter!

  4. The Wedding Quilt is coming together beautifully. The blocks look great. I don't like doing applique, but I really like seeing what others can do with it. Happy stitching this week.

  5. I like that March joke and I've repeated it often! I read this interesting article this weekend. https://www.theatlantic.com/family/archive/2019/01/why-kids-tell-weird-jokes/579472/ From the text: "Stanley Dubinsky, an English professor at the University of South Carolina and the author of Understanding Language Through Humor, agrees that kids tend to tell bizarre jokes because they haven’t yet mastered what exactly makes a joke, a joke. And what makes it a joke, he explains, is that it presents an “incongruity”—a surprising and perplexing query or situation—and then resolves it coherently."

  6. P.S. Your quilt blocks are beauties. Our guild has begun a DJ quilt-along. I will sit back and admire the results.

  9. Hi Judy, isn't it lovely when something reminds us of a joke or saying by someone special to us? New Years eve always reminds me of my father - no matter where I was, he would always call me to wish me all of the best in the new year. I think that it was one of his favourite times. Thanks for reminding me of that! Your quilt is coming along - so much stitching!
