Well, tomorrow is the day, but I have my Valentine’s Day quilts out for the whole month of February. Here are pictures of two of my favorite February quilts:
I am working on block #15 for the Benjamin Biggs Wedding quilt, and this block has a LOT of leaves on it. 34 leaves to be exact. Here are my leaves, cut out and pressed a little bit. I am ready to begin appliqué of leaves, leaves, leaves, and a few buds and stems:
Here is the beautiful block in the original quilt:
And here are two more pictures…..one of last week’s completed block #14…..and the design wall, with all the blocks so far:
Progress is being made, and I am starting to think about the borders. I want to start on them soon, so they will not seem like such a big task to do all at the end of the project. When do you start on borders? I usually start after the middle is finished if I am not following a pattern, because I usually don’t know or haven’t decided what I am doing. lol. On this quilt, I know what the borders will be like. Lots of red swags….and leaves and buds.
What are you working on this week? I so enjoy reading about your quilts and looking at all of your pictures. Thanks for linking with the Design Wall Monday Linky Party! It is exciting to see all the new ideas and learn of new quilt-a-longs going on. My Valentines Day gift to myself will be enjoying all of your blogs on Tuesday. Happy Valentine’s Day!

I've always like your Valentines quilts, especially the one you made from a counted cross stitch design. Happy stitching!
I remember when you finished that second Valentine's quilt. Both are beautiful. Just WOW! Your Benjamin Biggs Wedding blocks are gorgeous! Sounds like the borders are going to be pretty involved, so it would be good to get those going too so you don't stall out. Happy stitching this week.
sew lovely
I remember when you were working on that second Valentine's quilt. Both of them are absolutely beautiful! Your applique blocks are looking great together.
That Valentine quilt is STUNNING! Ihave quilt envy. Thanks for sharing.
lovely valentine's quilts...and great progress on biggs!
I don't remember the one on the wall, but it is gorgeous! I've always liked the one on the banister though. Your Benjamin Biggs Wedding Quilt is stunning. If I am making up my own design, I plan the borders after the body has been completed, but sometimes even when I'm going by a plan, I change the borders when I get to them. I never piece them before the body is done though.
Hi Judy, those are wonderful Valentine's quilts. I really admire all of your appliqué work - that is so intense! I just don't have the patience, although I guess hexies are just as intense but in a different way :-) I finally figured out why you would want to start or at least figure out your final border - because you always add so much appliqué! Yes, you would want to do that ahead of time otherwise it's almost as much work as the original quilt! I've always wanted to make a pieced border on a quilt (other than piano keys which I have done), but by the time I get to the border, all I want is to be finished...so it never happens! Thanks for the party. Have a great week.
What beautiful red and white quilts! Also look at all those perfectly formed leaves ready for applique!
Very pretty quilts! I love red and white quilts too. Good progress on your applique. Happy Valentine's Day.
Your Valentine quilts are so pretty and cheerful. And your appliqué is gorgeous.
Judy your Valentines quilts are all beautiful. Thank you for sharing your lovely projects. 😉 Carol
