Design Wall Monday - February 28, 2022

Good Morning Quilters!  Thank you for all your prayers and kind words this past week.  Your words comforted me and were very much appreciated.

As I have mentioned in the past, I am part of a group of quilters in Virginia who exchange blocks and make civil war repro quilts.  The group, The Churn Dashers of Tidewater Virginia, had a display of some of our quilts in the Mid-Atlantic Quilt Show, in Newport News, Virginia.  It ran from February 24-27, 2022, and I was not there in person to see our quilts.  Friends sent me pictures of the three quilts I had in the display, so I am going to enjoy seeing them “hung” here on the blog:

The above is a full sized quilt and the two below are doll quilts.

The Churn Dashers next block exchange will be a Jacob’s Ladder block that finishes at 6 inches.  The block is in a nine patch configuration with four hsts and five four-patches.  Here are my first four blocks made for the exchange:

It is a very old block and if you want to make some, the directions are on the internet in several places.  Just google “Jacob’s Ladder Quilt Block” and many sites have good directions.  For the exchange, which happens this fall, I will need to make 16 blocks for each participant, 8 blocks with a dark “ladder” leaning to the right, and 8 blocks with a light ladder leaning to the left. There are 8 of us in this exchange, (so I will make 112 blocks for others).  This should work out nicely for me, as the quilt I plan to make has 120 squares, and I can make 8 additional blocks to go with the ones I receive in the exchange.

What are you working on this week?  I appreciate being able to see and read about what you are creating.  You inspire all of us.  Thanks for faithfully joining the Design Wall Linky Party each week.  Please invite others who read your blog to join us in the fun, and of course, please provide a link back to this post.  Thank you.

Design Wall Monday - February 21, 2022

Good Morning Quilters!  This past week has been bitter sweet here, as my only sister passed away on Wednesday.  She went peacefully as I held her hand, and I was so honored to care for her during her final days here on earth.  I am sure she is in heaven, enjoying a new life there.  Her funeral is tomorrow, and quilting will again take a back seat for another week.  Thank you all for your prayers for her and for our family.

The only thing “quilt” related this week was a purchase:  I bought some blue buttons from a friend who is downsizing her sewing room.  I have wanted to make an American Flag Quilt and have saved some internet examples of different ideas.  See below:

Now that I have my friend’s buttons, I am thinking about this idea more.  Have you made a wall hanging using buttons on a quilt?

The quilt in my blog header is made with buttons from my mother’s button box, and is one of my favorites.  I think it is time to sew some more buttons onto a quilt.

Please show us what you are working on this week.  I so appreciate being able to see and read about what beautiful things you are creating.  You inspire all of us.  As always, I ask that you provide a link back to this blog post from within your post.  Also, if you invite others to join us in our weekly Design Wall Linky Party, that's appreciated too.

Design Wall Monday - February 14, 2022

 Happy Valentine’s Day Quilters!

If you have followed my blog for a while, you know I have saved all the valentine cards from hubby over the many years we’ve been married.  I like to get them out and read them again each year.  Here’s a picture of them beside me right now:

Isn’t this a cute vintage quilt?

It is pictured in Mary Emmerling’s Country Hearts small red book shown with the cards.  I love Mary Emmerling’s books.  I should make a doll quilt like this picture……but not until the WIPs are completed.  I like the eight pointed stars in it.

Since it is Valentine’s Day today, I must include pictures of my two large Valentine’s Day quilts:  This one is so large that I have two pictures to show it:  the bottom part, (with Penny Lane) and the top (upside down over the railing). Note to self:  take a new picture of the complete quilt.

This one is usually on the couch in the living room, where I can snuggle up with it, but this picture is of it on the design wall when I was making it.

What’s on your design wall today?  I have no new pictures to show you, as I am doing very little this week.  My sister did came home with us Wednesday, and is now sleeping peacefully almost all the time.  Hospice has been very helpful, and a lot of the time I just sit with her and hold her hand.  It comforts me, and I think it comforts her.  I can feel your prayers for her and I thank you very much.

Please show us what you are working on this week.  I so appreciate being able to see and read about what beautiful things you are creating.  You inspire all of us.  As always, I ask that you provide a link back to this blog post from within your post.  Also, if you invite others to join us in our weekly Design Wall Linky Party, that's appreciated.

Happy Valentine’s Day!  I hope you are able to hug someone today, or hold their hand.

Design Wall Monday - February 7, 2022

Good Morning Quilters!  The Birds of a Feather quilt is almost a quilt top.  The final hst border is a long strip and is ready to be sewn onto the bottom of the quilt.

All three of the other hst borders have been sewn on.  Then I shall add the last 5 inch plain border to all four sides.  It should be a completed top next Monday.  Here is a picture of the three other attached hst borders:

I haven’t worked on quilting much because I’ve still sitting with my sister daily at the hospital.  Major decisions are being made and she is scheduled to come home to live with us when she leaves the hospital.  We will take care of her with help from hospice.

I am at peace with the decision, as I am convinced she will get the best care possible with us.

Thank you for your prayers for us, I appreciate prayers so much.  I have pulled out an old UFO to work on while I sit with Nancy.. It is 50 blocks, embrodered birds and flowers of each state in the United States.  There are four blocks finished and I have started the fifth.

What are you starting….or finishing this week?  Please join the Design Wall Linky Party below.  For those of you who mention Design Wall Monday in your post, and also provide a link back to this post, I thank you.  You are my kind of people.
