Design Wall Monday - December 1, 2025

Good Morning Quilters!

Here is the view out my bedroom windows as I got up yesterday morning.  A blanket of snow on every branch and twig.  Glorious!!

I got my quilting mojo back while at retreat recently, and also did something that astounded me.  I bought a quilt kit from the sale table!  I have been resolutely working on finishing UFOs for the past year, but for some unexplained reason, I bought and have started a new project.  It is an entire quilt made up of hourglass blocks, and is different than my usual style of quilts.  I sometimes can’t explain my actions, but there it is…….I have started a new quilt.

Here is the pattern picture:

The quilt is named “In the Round” and is by Laura Berlinger.  Here are the first three sets of blocks, out of fourteen different sets:

I quite like the simplicity and calmness of this project.  Quite different than the Jane Stickle quilt triangles I’ve been working on.  But whatever the reason for my diversion to something new to me, I am enjoying quilting again.

What are you working on this week?  With this being the start of the busiest month of the year, and the recent snowstorms (8 inches here) quilting will be hard to fit into our busy lives.  But we will find some time……. I know we will.

So good to read that your mojo returned! The new design reminds me of the softness of the snowfall. (But glorious? 9" here and it took two neighbors to clear my driveway!)

We only had about 5" here - just enough to cover all the frozen brown tundra. The kit you bought is really going to be pretty, with those soft neutral colors. Elegance came to my mind.

Sometimes we just want to make something different than our 'normal' quilts. Enjoy making the HST's!

That's a pretty quilt. It should be engaging until you are sick of making the quarter square triangles. There is no reason to "justify" why you bought it. Just enjoy working on it.

Yor window could be a quilt panel - its so pretty. Love your new project... I made one very similar to that for the Rainbow Scrap challenge a few years ago - now I want to get it out!

That first picture looks more like a painting than an actual window!

I knitted for many, many years, practically everything imaginable – until I was drawn to sewing. From bags and clothes for myself, I got into quilting... and what can I say, quilting and related topics are endless :-))) I'm currently working on quilt number 4 (in large format).
Now I'm working with free-motion quilting techniques – it's so much fun!
Your triangular blocks are very beautiful... the colors are so calm and balanced. I wish you lots of enjoyment working on them and good progress :-))
I'm also currently making stars... I'm a bit behind on my blog posts; I have visitors coming this weekend, and then I'll post something.
Warmest regards to you, and I wish you and your loved ones a happy Advent season.

Fresh snow is so wonderful... your snow window is so incredible... JOY.

So pretty to see the snow - we're on our third snowfall here in central Indiana, which I love. It's early in the year to have this much snow and I am really enjoying it. That looks like a great kit - kind of mindless sewing once you get the fabric sets together. I like to have a little of that between more complex projects.
