Design Wall Monday - March 4, 2019

This past week I have been "home alone" with Penny Lane, as hubby was gone on a golfing trip to Florida with a bunch of his golfing buddies.  I decided to treat it as a "quilt retreat at home" and made a lot of progress on my Broken Dishes blocks.  For the quilt I'm making, 1,300 Broken Dishes blocks are needed and I had progressed down to the final 300, using my plan of making 10 a day.  But it felt like it would be going on forever.

So by concentrating on getting them made while on this at home retreat,  I am happy to tell you that I have all of the half square triangles made, pressed open, and the corners snipped off.  Which means great progress to getting them sewn into fours to complete the Broken Dishes blocks.  Here are the final batches of hsts on my ironing board:

And a picture of some of them sewn into Broken Dishes blocks:

The decision to make all of the blocks before starting to assemble the quilt top was a good one, as I didn't want to get bogged down in making them, and never complete the quilt.  The reward of seeing a completed block has been postponed like a carrot on a stick for me, until the Broken Dishes blocks are complete.  I am excited to soon move on to the next phase.

And excited to move on to the two other quilts in progress that are on the short list right now.  They weren't worked on during my little retreat.  What have you been working on?  I see some of my friends are starting new projects from the eternal offerings of free patterns on the internet.  I am trying to keep my blinders on and keep working on the ones I have in progress.

Please link up and show us what is on your design wall, or what project is on your ironing board, or what blocks are on your counter top......we want to see what you are doing!  Thanks for linking each week, and as you know, I ask please that you refer back to this particular blog post somewhere within your blog post.  Thanks!

Wow that is a lot of blocks, I would likely get bored making that many. How big are each block? I'm certain you said in a previous post. Thank you for the linky party.

I have always enjoyed reading and taking part in your Design Wall Monday. However, sadly the link no longer works for me. It keeps loading and loading, but never loads. :-(

Wow, that is a lot of perfectly made tiny blocks! Can't wait to see them together and yes, to having them all sewn up front like this.

I'm having the same problem as Sandy. It seems that this new format has shut a lot of people off from linky parties. I'll still check in to see what you are making (that is a bunch of cute little blocks) but sadly I won't be able to see the links anymore!

Good for you, enjoying a quilting retreat for one! That's what I should be doing today, but then there are emails to answer, bills to pay, paperwork to catch up on and it will be noon before I know it... But you have inspired me to step away from the computer RIGHT NOW for an hour or two of quilting!

Im a little confused here. Were you saying that as you finish blocks you start to sew them into rows before all the blocks are done? Typically? I never considered that option. Could be a good plan at times, I guess.
