Design Wall Monday - May 23, 2022

 Good Morning Quilters!

This past week has not been very productive for me as a quilter, but I did start a small quilt project.  Whenever I make a bed sized quilt, I like to make a similar doll quilt.  While working on my May Day Baskets quilt, I sent away for some small basket embroidery patterns, and they have arrived.

Here is my start on the doll quilt:

There are eight baskets, set on point, and I sewed the squares together because I thought the individual little baskets looked pretty small to hold while doing the embroidery.  The individual baskets are about five inches square, and the doll quilt measures about 17” by 26”.

The trimming and sewing together of the squares on the large May Day Baskets quilt will resume today.  It makes me nervous to trim embroidered blocks, and as I said before,  I think of the motto “measure twice, cut once,”  Kathy (Kathy’s blog) told me a friend of hers says “cut once, curse twice”.   She made me laugh.  I will be glad when I have them all trimmed.

The House Finch family has tidied up their empty nest and appear to be about ready to start a second family.  The male House Finch sings often from the peak of our roof above the nest, and yesterday I decided to name him Atticus.  I say Good Morning to him when I am walking Penny Lane.

What are you working on this week?  It is so beautiful outside this spring and I am reading that some of you are working on your yards and flowers.  I am too, and am enjoying the sunshine.  Thanks for sharing pictures of your flowers and your design walls.

How clever of you to make doll quilts imitating your big quilts! I like that concept!I'm doing a similar thing - making a baby quilt to mimic my big quilt. Happy Quilting!

I'm glad you had a giggle from that saying!
5" is a small embroidery and such a good idea to sew the blocks together first.
LOL Atticus Finch!

Very cute little embroideries. A few blocks trimmed every day will get the job done!

Such pretty blocks to stitch, and not too huge to handle. Hope your thread never tangles :)

Hi Judy, your doll quilt will be lovely also! Best of luck with the trimming - that always makes me nervous because no matter how many times I measure, I'm quite good at messing up (accuracy challenged!) I've been playing in my garden for the first time this spring. It went from too hot to rain, but now it's sunny and cool for a few days - perfect gardening weather! Take care.
