Design Wall Monday - December 13, 2021

Good Morning Quilters!

One more UFO is finished this past week. My good friend, Dee, made a redwork Santa for me, many years ago.  It has been my intention for quite a while to make it into a pillow, but it was in my UFO stash because I am afraid of zippers.  I have a new friend, Aggie, who is great at making pillows and she said she could finish it for me in time to use it this Christmas.  So I gave her the Santa, and she finished it into a lovely pillow.  So it is out of my UFOs, and I am so happy to have it on the living room couch.

Here it is:

The Pie hot pads project is started, and I am making improvements in my plans as I go.  Here are the first two I have made:

and here is a picture of the back of them:

I don’t have as many rounds of quilted circles from the bedspread as I do circles of pie fabric, so some pies will have a fabric backing.  But I like the plaid binding better than the solid tan….it looks more like the pie is on a plate.  The tan binding is too similar to the crust.  I was also planning on using some leftover bindings that I have, but the binding must be cut on the bias, and some of my saved pieces of bindng are not.

I am thinking I need to use a round pattern guide on top of them when I sew the binding on, as these two are “roundish” and they would look better to me if they were actually round.  And I am thinking about leaving some background of white between the crust and the binding.  I am also thinking that I am over thinking the project.

What are you making, or thinking about making, or what is on your design wall today?  Please join Design Wall Monday below and show us.   For those of you who mention Design Wall Monday in your blog, and also provide a link back to this post, I thank you.   I look forward to reading your blog posts.

Please pray with me for my sister, as she now has Covid.  Thankfully, the dialysis facility will still treat her three x a week, but will not allow anyone to sit with her while she receives treatment.   She has had all her Covid shots, so I am praying she has a mild case of Covid and that she will be compliant while receiving dialysis.

Your redwork Santa looks so jolly as a Finished Object rather than a UFO.
The optical illusion potholders are so clever!

Thirty years ago when I made most of my clothes I got good at zippers (especially 7" for the skirt pattern that I made a couple of dozen times). I've had this sewing machine (Janome) for three years this month and I haven't put a zipper into anything. I ought to set a goal to "make something with a zipper."

I hope your sister will be ok, I know you have said someone usually needs to be with her for her treatment - that she doesn't handle it well? Maybe they can sedate her for the treatment so she will remain calm - I hope you do not get covid as well but glad you all have your shots to help keep it mild

One thing about posting every day. It does not always have to be whole book. Those pie hot pads are ingenious.

Your pie pot holders are too cute. In fact, they make me want a piece of pie NOW! Thank goodness there are friends who have different skills than us and are willing to help! Santa looks too cute on the sofa.
