Good Morning Quilters!
"In Flanders Fields" is a war poem written during the First World War by Canadian soldier and physician Lieutenant-Colonel John McCrae. McCrae wrote the poem in 1915 as a memorial to those who died in a World War I battle fought in a region of Belgium known as the Ypres Sailent. McCrae himself treated many of the soldiers injured in that battle and was particularly moved by the death of a close friend, Alexis Helmer.
Flag protocol for Memorial Day is that the American flag is to be flown at half-mast from sunrise until noon, and then raised to full height from noon until sunset. This is to honor those who have died defending our country for the first half of the day, and in the second half of the day to honor those now living who defended our country. In honor of the children killed in Texas the American flags have been at half-mast this past week. Such a tragedy.
Progress on my May Day doll quilt has been made. One basket embroidered and six to go:
The 30 block May Day Basket quilt is completely on the design wall, with all embroidered blocks trimmed to the same size, and green side triangles and corner triangles up there too. Whew! Glad the block trimming is finished. This week I will sew it together and decide on a border.
What are you planning on working on this coming week? Did you make some progress last week? I am looking forward to reading all of your blogs and looking at your pictures. Thanks so much for joining The Design Wall Monday Linky Party. Please mention the party in your post and provide a link back here, so your readers can see the other posts that are part f Design Wall Monday.

May basket is such a lovely quilt! The doll baskets are very sweet too. Happy stitching!
Love both basket projects. I've been out of blogland for a good bit and you've made lots of progress on your big basket quilt. Looking foreward to seeing it all assembled. Happy stitching this week.
The May Day Basket quilt is going to be gorgeous!!! Wow! The green blocks are just perfect with the embroidered blocks.
Thank-you for honoring our heroes today. Mr. G was buried at Camp Nelson. He was a Marine. It's always beautiful there.
I've veered away from quilts at the moment and working on baby gifts and cards for various occasions. Your quilt is beautiful. Thank you for the linky. I don't have many to visit my blog unless I use your's and other linkies.
This is going to be such a great quilt! I love embroidered baskets. Maybe I'll finally get around to making one soon. Thanks for sharing.
Always, always love seeing these embroidered baskets. Hand stitching is the best.
The embroidery is so sweet! Love the setting. Doll quilts are so fun to work on, adorable.
Someone set that poem to music a while ago. I've sung it several different times. And, I love both music and poem. Thank you for sharing it. Congrats on finishing the trimming and getting all the setting fabric cut. Have fun sewing it together this week.
Looks fabulous on the design wall! You have finished all the figuring and cutting and now is the fun part of sewing it together!
Such a lovely post, Judy. Your May Day Basket quilt is looking fabulous. So pretty seeing it on the design wall. I hope you have a wonderful and productive week. Thank you for hosting the link party.
Hi Judy, I really love your embroidered quilt - it's really coming along! Can I ask if you take any special care with your embroidery when washing your finished quilt? I've always been rather nervous about making a full quilt with embroidery. I do have a UFO that I would love to finish. I think that this is one of the reasons that I haven't finished it yet. Thanks for your help. Have a great week.
Lovely poem, I am across the border from Belgium and around here there are sadly, lots of crosses as well of these young men from all across the world who came to defend the country.
