Design Wall Monday - July 29, 2019

Grandchildren are at the cabin with us, and I completely forgot about Design Wall Monday this morning.  Please forgive me for being late in posting.  Here's a picture of the current quilt, showing my start at the sashing:

Please add a picture of your project this week, to show us what you are quilting.  Grands are flying home Wednesday, so I will be back to quilting on Thursday.

Design Wall Monday - July 22, 2019

The last seam was sewn on the Broken Dishes Quilt, and this week I will take it to the longarm quilter.  Yeah!

I have another quilt I'm working on this week - one with exchanged blocks - from other quilters in the Churn Dashers group.  We are each making a replica of a vintage quilt.  Pictured below are the exchanged blocks that I have added the red triangles to.  It is shown on my "design wall bed" with the completed Broken Dishes Quilt underneath it.  I have 9 more blocks to add the red triangles to, and 3 more blocks to make from scratch....to get to the 42 blocks that I need for the quilt.

Here is a picture of the vintage quilt that we are using as inspiration:

I really like the old quilt, and hope mine looks similar.  This quilt will be in the Mid-Atlantic Quilt Festival in Newport News, VA in 2020.  Today and tomorrow, I will be adding sashing to the blocks, and will show you a picture next week of my progress.

What do you have to show me?  I am looking forward to seeing your design wall.  And no, you don't have to have a design wall.  As you can see, when I am at the cabin, it is a bed!  You know the drill, please refer back to this particular blog post from somewhere within your post that you publish today.  Thanks!

Design Wall Monday - July 15, 2019

The broken dishes quilt is almost finished! It will finish at 100" by 100".  Here are pictures of the quilt on the log bed at the cabin:

I have one more long seam left.....to attach the bottom 20" by 100" to the mother ship.

Last week I thought I had not counted well on how many broken dishes blocks that I needed.   So I made some more.  Then this week, I found the rest of the broken dishes blocks that were missing.

So, I have laid out two doll quilts from the extra broken dishes blocks.  They will both finish at 14" by 18".

The last seam on the big quilt and both doll quilts will be sewn together by next Monday, even with company coming to the cabin.  I love this "almost finished" stage.  I have my sewing machine set up in the log bedroom, in front of the windows looking out at the lake.  I feel blessed!

What is on your design wall this week?  I am so happy that you link up and show the rest of us what you are working on.  Please link back to this particular post from somewhere within your post this week.  Thanks.

Design Wall Monday - July 8, 2019

Did you have a nice 4th of July week?  I sure did.....however, I had so much fun and company that I didn't get any quilting done.  It made me happy to spend time with family, and we had a great time.  Here are two pictures I took this week, neither one is of quilting, but I hope you enjoy them:

The first is a vase of roses.  My nephew Doug cut some of his roses for me from a prolific bush in his backyard.  And the vase is one of my Mother's, and always reminds me of her.

The second is a flat of strawberries that we picked on Saturday.  I was starting to prepare them for shortcake when I stopped, and said I must take a picture of these beautiful berries.  With six of us, it didn't take us very long to pick these, and we had delicious strawberry shortcake that night.  Yummy!

We also had a bonfire later Saturday night (with s'mores) and watched the fireworks.  The lake association put on a fine show out over the lake.  It was a lovely holiday and I feel like I shouldn't eat again for a week!

Instead of eating today, I will quilt!  So I will have something to show you next week.  I hope you have some pictures to show me.  Please link up with Design Wall Monday below.  I always enjoy hearing from you and looking at your beautiful work.  As usual, I ask that you provide a link back to this particular blog post somewhere within your blog post.  Thank you.

Design Wall Monday - July 1, 2019

Can you believe it is July?  I can't.  The weather has been great at the cabin, and even with no air conditioning, it is very pleasant with a constant breeze coming in from the water.

This last week, I worked on the broken dishes quilt, and made some good progress.  I have all the broken dishes blocks completed, and 4/5 of the quilt is assembled.  The last 1/5 is divided into five equal parts, which I estimate will take me about a week each (factoring in all the company coming to the cabin this summer.). I'm happy with it so far, and am plugging away at it.

Here are some pictures taken yesterday.  Three of the five 20 inch by 100 inch strips are sewn together, and the fourth strip is now completed, but not attached.  I finished that strip last night.

(the last 8" by 20" part missing is now there, but it was too late when I finished to take a picture)

Next picture is taken while I was standing behind the quilt on the "design floor".

This last picture is taken from the stairs landing, up by the guest room, looking down on the quilt, which gives you a bird's eye view:

I'm looking forward to seeing what you are working on this Monday morning. I know you may be going away, or having company for the 4th of July holiday, so it might be a busy week, but please send me a picture anyway.

As usual, please provide a link back to this particular post from somewhere within your blog post.  Thanks so much.

HAPPY 4TH OF JULY
