A sad time in America.. Violence is never the answer in political differences. I want to vote for my favorite candidates and also respect my friends who disagree with me, and vote for their favorite candidates.
Here in our quilting world though, all is at peace……or at least it is on my design wall. Remember last week I said there were 3 different bowtie projects in the UFO box I got out? Last week I talked about the 1st one - skirt material and solid red 5 inch bowties. This is the rest of the story of what was also in the UFO box.
There were some thirties print fabric bowtie blocks with thirties print backgrounds behind the bowties. In other words, there was a lot going on, and no place for the eye to rest. I think someone gave them to me a long time ago. I cut them all apart, (not seam ripping) and made each part a smaller size. And I used a more neutral background, and they are now the start of a little doll quilt, plus some more that didn’t want to be in the doll quilt, so I made them into groups of four blocks. I am unsure of what I will make with the sets of four…….maybe hot pads or to decorate the end of dish towels….what do you suggest?
Here is the doll quilt, with the proposed pink binding near it. Blocks are 3” square, and doll quilt will be about 17” square.
And the extra 3 sets of four blocks: (and three individual lone blocks). These blocks below are mostly from the original “background” fabric, so you can see just how busy the Blocks were originally.
The 3rd bowtie project was fabric cut for bowties and no background fabrics, Here is a picture of the cut bowtie pieces:
They will finish at 5 inches square. What do you suggest for a background color? I am leaning toward just plain white, but could be persuaded to use a solid color. What do you think? There are 92 on them.

Very cute doll quilt. You are making the best out of what you found in the project box. White would definitely set off all those parts and pieces in that last set. It you want to keep it too the time period, a solid yellow or light green background fabric might be fun. Looking forward to seeing what you decide on.
White would work but so would a solid yellow -- but not too bright of one. I couldn't figure out why your bow ties looked so much different than mine. And then it hit -- yours have a square as the knot." Mine just have fabric that suggests the knot. Good for you for trying to use all off your bow ties and their parts.
pretty little bow ties...unfortunately respect is a quality hugely lacking in society today...those who demand tolerance have little for anyone else...maturing of agreeing to disagree sorely lacking as well...elections not weapons are to support your choice. a society governed by weapons is anarchy and that is the big scare here...
I think I'd use a plain muslin for the background of those bowties. They are adorable is such a mini size!!!

when I saw your stacks of scrappy squares I flashed on seeing my grandmothers quilting. She used actual clothing scraps to make quilts and had a wild asst. in each quilt. She would give me a small stack to sew together on her treadle machine. LeeAnna
Bravo for reviving those bow ties! Just about any solid or tone-on-tone would work....medium blue? Coral?
A white background would be great, but so would a cream or pale yellow. You are doing a great job in repurposing those blocks.
Judy I love those bow tie blocks. I think I’d use a cream or muslin solid background fabric for those cute cut out bow ties since there is so many prints in the bow tie fabrics. It is sad to see the latest violence in your country and your post reflects your thoughts beautifully. Thank you for hosting us.

Hi Judy, the bow ties must have been camouflaged in those busy fabrics! They look great now. I love white as a background but I've been using more grey and beige just because they don't show the dirt as easily. My poor white quilts are not very white unfortunately. Have a great week.
